A garden can be an individual idea represented through rocks, vegetables, a public recreation area, or an open-aired walled patio with beautiful flowers and trees. A rock garden could be an area that is easily maintained while displaying God's wondrous diversity of rocks and boulders. A vegetable garden could be a source of food sustaining many families. The word garden represents positive nurturing; giving joy and blessings to others.
A garden is a place set aside for special purposes. An eighteenth century walled garden could be filled with beautiful decorations protected from outside distractions and theft. Here, one could contemplate the beauty of plants, ideas, or develop enjoyable conversation without the disturbance of the bustling of errant behavior outside the walls. The idea of a garden has been constant throughout the centuries because man's need of a garden has been constant, never changing.
A garden can be a carefully cultivated plot of land rewarding us with food. Through suffering, sweat, and labor a harvest is amassed sustaining us with our daily food. Similarly, when we are confronted with a heavy burden in life we pray seeking consolation from God. Just as God sustains us, helping us to overcome life's obstacles, so a garden satisfies us with its bounty.
Neither, a walled-in patio or a manicured vegetable garden, is inclusive for the definition of a garden. The definition of a garden is open, and can be considered an oasis for a specific purpose. It is an area or an idea set aside for the development of something better than if the area is left alone.
Do we have a specific purpose in our lives? If God just left us alone could we develop into something better than what encompasses his plan? How do we work in God's garden? After all, God made earth - our garden. We are all stewards on this planet. God has given us dominion over everything on earth. (NIV Bible) Genesis 1:28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." God gave us dominion over the earth - a garden he made for you and me.
Here in God's garden we can grow, enjoying the beauty of God's work through wondrous sunsets, magnificent mountain expanses, and in a millefleur of flowers. We are captivated by God's presence when we enjoy, admiring others and their talents. Our garden sustains us with food from its bountiful harvest through careful cultivation. This earth, our home, can be joyful and peaceful. Our garden, a positive nurturing belief giving joy and blessings to others is none other than our relationship with God.
God made this planet earth, our garden. God is with us always. As we go through our days honoring God in all we do, God tends our garden, keeping the weeds down, the thistles minimal, the trials that life throws at us endurable. God protects us in his garden with his word. When we are obedient to his word we harvest more blessings than we can mention. God has a special purpose for us in his garden and he wants us to enjoy his garden. As we try to make our own gardens for our own special needs with rocks and flowers God gives us his garden, more spectacular and astounding than anyone could ever imagine, developing us for his glory and purpose.
