TITLE WATERS TO REFRESH AND REVIVE US
Living on the banks of a river is very interesting. The vegetation and trees especially in a tropical climate is always green. The sky on sunny clear days is blue and the flowing water reflects the atmosphere. Sunsets and sunrises are picture perfect, and if there is a mountain range in the horizon it is awesome. On days when it is not raining children come out to play on the river bank, they paddle and swim with glee. Fishing is a hobby that brings many people with their nets and fishing rods. You may even see small boats going up and down the river. Different animals come to quench their thirst or even just to cool off. You could spend hours sitting and watching on a river bank, the activities and admire the beauty of the environment.
When you visit a dessert area for sometime, what a contrast you see on the land without water. The whole landscape is sand, for miles and miles not a tree in sight, not even a blade of grass. The heat is exhausting and there is no sight of life anywhere. All this is because there is no water to sustain life. There are no rivers flowing down from the mountains with its life giving stream. There is drought and famine, limited rainfall, with minimum vegetation or animals.
We know that water is essential for life and is one of our basic needs. The melting snow upon the mountain tops and rain come down to in rivers. In the garden of Eden we read about a river coming down to water the trees. In the first chapter of the book of Psalms David records that a man who trusts in God is like trees planted by the waters, he will be fruitful and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The blessings of the Lord are given for us to enjoy. In Isaiah 6:12 the Lord promises “peace like a river” to his people. None of us want to have a desert experience in our lives. When we obey the Lord and follow his commands the peace and joy that flows into us will also flow out through us to others around us. Just as the river brings life, nourishment and fruitfulness to everything in its surroundings, let impart the abundant life He gives to us to those around us.
Let others see the fountain of living water in us and desire to come to the Savior. The Lord Jesus can quench our thirst and give us springs of living water to refresh and revive us.
