Reaching Out

This afternoon I took
A niece to her dr's appointment
I let her husband drive my car
I sat in the front passengers seat

As we came out of town
We had to stop at a red light
I just happened to look at
The car on the right side of me

A young man dressed in army uniform
Had his head hanging down
And he was behind the steering wheel
He looked so sad

When he looked up
I gave him a little wave
He waved back
I smiled

I blew him a kiss
Surprisingly, he returned
One of his own

I rolled the window down
Said, son, this is a grandma
Reaching out to you
Be happy and safe

He then had the biggest smile
On his face
I did not know the young man

But I think I made a difference
In his day, anyway
I pray that I did
Because he had such a big smile

On his young face
I felt like God
Inspired me to
Do this act of grace

My three favorite words
Have always been
"Thank you, Lord."
And He never lets me down.
