Please, don’t ask me what I think about the television show “Fear Factor.” Firstly, I’ve never watched a single episode of it. Secondly, it has nothing to do with this writing. You see, many of us have walked through our own personal paths of fear in our lives. Whether it was a story told at a campfire, or a shadow in our room at night that would not leave us alone.

As a young child, I used to be afraid of many things. Being left in the dark was my worst fear. I think it is because I had a terrifying experience in the dark. Maybe your fears are different. Most of us at one time or another have found ourselves plagued by some form of fear. Fear of losing a job, getting ill or even death. Fear of being alone or fear of being around people. Fear of the sky falling, fear of financial ruin. Fear of not having anything to be afraid about. The list goes on and on.

As I study God’s Word I find an all too important truth regarding fear.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

(2 Timothy 1:7 NASB)

I have learned to apply faith in place of fear in my life. It has been said that fear is False Evidence Appearing Real! When I come to a crossroad and find myself face to face with fear, I begin to search my heart for God’s faith to empower me to overcome my fears. This isn’t always easy. Unless we are familiar with our faith in God and have learned how to rely and trust on Him, finding faith to overcome fears obstacles in our lives may elude us. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. (Romans 10:9) We also know that the ‘just” shall live by faith according to Romans 1:17. So, if we being of Christ, whom He calls “just” or justified, live by faith, there will be no room in our life for fear.

Has fear left you despondent? Did you know that there are 365 “fear nots” in the bible? - One for everyday of the year! It’s time to reach down and pull up those boot straps my friend. It’s your day of liberation! Trust God at His Word. Psalm 91 beautifully illustrates how God protects us and covers us with His wings. But beloved one, He can only do that when we are abiding in His presence. In His presence we find His perfect love. In closing remember this:

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear (1 John 4:18).” KJV
