Why do I pull away from you instead of drawing near?
I stop my ears from letting in that still-small voice I hear

Down deep I want to talk with you, and bow on bended knee
But the world and its surroundings have a strange appeal to me

Dear Lord, help me to break away from temptation and it’s hold
I used to praise you constantly, but now my tongue’s grown cold

It hurts me so to open up- I feel I should confess
But then I’d have to talk about my sins, and all the rest

I get so tired of running because I know you’ll win the race
For even in my sins, you pardoned me with Saving Grace

Here I stand, in deep repentance; chains are falling at my feet
And the praises on my tongue have never tasted quite so sweet

Lord, I ask for your forgiveness for my foolishness and pride
For losing faith in God the Father, for my hardened heart inside

Oh my Jesus, show great mercy, on this selfish soul of mine
Let me serve you, once again Lord, cause my heart to beat with thine
