                                Forget About Yesterday

By Robert Schaetzle

Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.   Philippians 3:13 ESV

Over the years living ‘in Jesus,’ is what my mind or physical body deals with today. It’s what God’s Spiritual power conquers within me. To strain or move forward to what God wants, is learning to let go the past, recognizing how to take hold the present. If I dwell on what I didn’t finish yesterday, it becomes difficult to recognize the grace and provisions presented for me today.

When I write out my weekly prayer list for our weekly church prayer gathering, I have this thought at the top of my prayer sheet:
DEDICATING EACH NEW DAY TO OUR LORD- IS DOING  GOD’S WILL

What Ihope and pray for, iswitnessing the power of God’spresence and Spirit flowing out from hearts. A reflection of the ‘Lord’s Prayer,’ for Thy will to be at work in our petitions and praises today. Not things of yesterday. Ourselves, as his servants, at work with our Lord leading to equip us for today.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts  neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9 ESV

Understanding God’s preeminence over every detail of our living experiences really is what faith brings in an abundant life. God’s purpose is letting go of yesterday to help us recognize our life’s experiences for today. My thoughts of yesterday, or what worldly sentimentality determines, will not bring our Lord’s best to living a purposeful result for today.

Father, as I dedicate each new day to make new discoveries, I must let go of yesterday to find today. Yesterday has passed, while the rest of today is still before me. Thank You, Amen
