“Truly my soul silently waits for God; from Him comes my salvation. He only is my Rock and my salvation; He is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.

My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defence; I shall not be moved.

In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge is in God.” Psalm 62:1-2, 5-7

To wait is one thing, to wait silently is another. We have no choice in the waiting as it is often beyond our control, but how we wait rests squarely upon our shoulders. The psalmist knew this and, in this instance, controlled his soul to wait silently.

His expectation loomed before him, his salvation, his deliverance, his stability, his defence. Holding this position of patient expectation would hold him fast and secure.

Was he expectant of any other intervention; no, for “God alone” was his hope in whatever way He chose to move him toward deliverance. The psalmist states emphatically “I shall not be moved...” not moved to despair, not moved to doubt, not moved to fear; for he had taken his stand upon and in the Rock of his salvation.

He would be glorified in being the means whereby others would see and hopefully hear where his refuge was found....“my refuge is in God.”

Because in God is my salvation and my glory, may I also take my stand on expectation from God alone; expectations of deliverance, stability, and defence that can come from Him alone and is effected in my life as I wait silently for Him, by His grace and for His glory.
