“You have shown Your people hard things, You have made us drink the wine of confusion. You have given a banner to those who fear You, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah That Your beloved may be delivered, save with Your right hand, and hear me.

Who will bring me to the strong city? Who will lead me to Edom? Is it not You, O God, who cast us off? And You, O God, who did not go out with our armies?

Give us help from trouble, for the help of Man is useless. Through God we will do valiantly, for it is He who shall tread down our enemies.” Psalm 60: 3-5, 9-12

God’s people, at times, are shown hard things and are, at times, in a state of confusion but over their lives a banner flies. Such a banner is this that heralds His truth and the acknowledgement of His presence in the life irregardless of the hard things and confusion.

Deliverance will come according to His will, when the beloved one is heard and His right hand is extended. There is no hope of overcoming the strong city without Him. Other pursuits have been undertaken but have failed because of the lack of His presence. The psalmist did not want to invite that defeat again.

Help is what he needed and trusting in the help of men was futile. There was only one way to know valiant victory and this would only come to pass if God was leading the charge.

Because there are times of “hard things” and confusion invading my life (a facet of being human), I am thankful for the banner of His truth that is flying over me, signifying His presence with me, by His grace and for His glory.
