                             Who Owns the Deed?

Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ Philippians 3:8 ESV

Often, we might  feel a sense of loss attempting to hang onto some situation, not wanting to forget the past. Maybe something in my heart more than giving up some material heirloom or ownership to a piece of property. I struggled when my wife was graduated to be with Jesus over two ago. The home we raised our five children, for over 52 years, holds a lot of wonderful memories and family gatherings. Fellowships hosted from church family and folks who come to stay with us.

But the opening verse defines for me the real truth. Whether it be the ‘deed to my heart’, or the ‘deed to the property’ I’ve been responsible for all these wonderful years. My surpassing worth of Jesus in me, holds much more value than all I have done or witnessed through the affection and love with  family and hosting of friends, walking through the door of this property.

In my senior years now, my family is caring and providing to me, things my age doesn’t allow me to do anymore. This too, is evidence to the residence of our Lord’s ownership working in each one of  the hearts of my children. “Thank You Father!”

This Advent season of the year helps me not to forget the deed from Him, who is our ‘Gift of love,’  without cost to us. Only to surrender by faith alone, from Jesus alone, the ‘Deed of everlasting love.’ One daywe’ll all take residence in our father’s house prepared for us, who holds the deed for eternity with our Creator and those who were graduated before us.

Thank You Father, for the deed to  my heart… your ‘Gift of love for eternity.’ Amen
