                       Emancipated Through Jesus

 Jesus then said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples,  and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 8:31-32 RSV

It was on January 1^st, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln declared his Emancipation Proclamation to do away with slavery in our United States. We recognize what Jesus told the Jews who believed and followed him. Becoming a follower of Jesus is our own mandate for being set free from the corruption and unrighteousness of this world around us. Becoming transformed into the ‘likeness’ of our Savior. Through the free gift called ‘New Birth,’ we’re now in a process of regeneration.

With our second birth, that of being born of ‘The Spirit,’ (John 3: 5-7) allows us to live with purpose of God, rather than serving self. Learning not to be conformed to  this world of deception and contention, but being set free to forgive, as our Lord set us free.  Set free or emancipated from anxiousness, discontent, worry, fear, hate, along with a host of other character qualities one carries, being a slave to this world of deception. Like watching an illusionist, or magician, what we witness around us is not always as it appears! Half-truth is still untruth!

When observing the world business, politics, entertainment, and sports, there are values we recognize of deception and immorality apart from ‘biblical truth.’ I am thankful for those who are truly transformed from all the ways of living we witness every day. Jesus alone proclaims to be  ‘The Way, The Truth, and The Life.’ Let’s be ever thankful  for folks who speak out, as did Charlie Kirk, against the world of false living around us.

Father, thank you for setting us free, as followers to proclaim Jesus, our ‘True Emancipator,’ for eternal blessing and hope. Learning to become ‘Doers of God’s word’ sets us free to tell others. Amen
