                             The Truth About Worry

Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:7 RSV

We each are challenged with concerns over anxiousness and fear, if we’re intellectually honest with ourselves. At times there may be seasons in our life, of things we can’t seem to let go of. I recall reading what a well-recognized pastor shared in a commentary about worry. I’m going to list some figures on percentages about worry.

40% of the things people worry about never happen.
30% of our worries are related to past matters.
12% of our worries have to do with health, regardless whether or not they are true.
10% of our worries are about family, friends, and neighbor’s, not based on evidence or fact.
Just 8% of our fears or worries have some foundation of truth, meaning that 90% of things we worry about never happen.

Since we are to live as ‘new creatures in Jesus,’ seeking to understand His sufficiency (2 Corinthians 12:9-10), we can know our lord gives each one of us ‘His way of escape,’ (1 Corinthians 10:13). We need not become over-burdened  with fear and depression.. Wearing the name ‘Christian,’ is to recognize Gods presence in us!. His Holy Spirit will give joy with peace over fear and worry, seeking Him, when Satan is throwing lies our way.   

Remember the incident from Mark chapter nine about the boy with an evil spirit? The father brought his son to Jesus, asking him to remove an evil spirit from him. The bottom line, ^‘And Jesus said to him, “If you can! All things are possible to him who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!” Mark 9:23-24

Father, when we cast all our worries and anxious concerns before you, I thank you because of your sufficiency to meet every burden on our heart. Most certainly… nothing is impossible through you when we truly believe. amen
