               What Is Wealth?

The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life.
Proverbs 22:4 ESV

When we take confidence in our human desire and reasoning, it’s almost impossible to listen to the ‘Voice of God’s Spirit and word.’ The mind of the flesh is to please the nature of ‘self’, which is in conflict with the mind of God. Multitudes of folks who wear the name Christian, struggle with allowing the Voice of God’s Spirit to rule. Especially when it comes the resources of our financial responsibilities.

Our wealth, as followers of Jesus is NOT of dollars and cents, but the inheritance what God gives. ‘Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.’ Proverbs 11:28 A commentary on this verse shares; ‘To begin to trust one’s riches is to start to distrust God. A bank account should never be the source of one’s strength!’

When my wife and I were married we were joined together and committed to seek first His honor. To trust in Him to lead and provide with what He gave me responsibility with. Trusting His word was  our promised hope. ‘The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever gives bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.’2 Corinthians 9:6-7 

God was teaching us the question… What Is Wealth? What’s essential, instead of whatthe world wants us to think is necessary. My wife gave up her teaching career to be homemaker and mom to our five children. My position as a United  States  Civil Servant was by no means a six figure income. Yet we paid off the mortgage of His home and witnessed how God provided for us in all other needs. What is important, to honor God, instead of  self.
