“Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; my flesh also will rest in hope. For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will You allow your holy One to see corruption. You will show me the path of life; in your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Psalm 16 9-11

Why is the psalmist’s heart glad....because he is fixed upon the LORD; he has the certainty of being in the hand of His God for time and eternity. Now that is security ! Even his flesh can rest in hope because of the resurrection of the LORD.

Along with this eternal assurance of life comes the “You will show me the path of life.” Oh, how he needed to be shown this path so that his faltering footsteps may have direction. The only way his joy would be full was while abiding in the presence of the LORD in a conscious and inviting way.

The eternal pleasures of being at His right hand would far exceed the pleasures of this position while here below, but they would be equally available to the glad, restful heart.

Because I need not only “a” path in life but “the” path in life, I can rejoice that in His presence that path is made known to me and there is the steadfast hope (also given by the Giver of the path) of pleasures forevermore at His right hand eternally by His grace and for His glory.
