At any International Sports Tournament, every country is on edge as their Athletes perform to compete for the Winning cup or Runners up cup. With sponsors investing huge amount of capitals and the high expenses being incurred by each participating country, the stakes are indeed very high.
We may all have been at our wits end in the throes of a nail biting sports match be it Cricket, Football or the Olympics where the final catch or shot is the determination catch for a victory or loss.
A miraculous catch is what is needed most at the eleventh hour!
We see a different type of catch in the Gospel where Jesus leads Peter and his companions to a miraculous catch of fish. But Jesus had greater plans for them to be fishers of men and catch them for the kingdom of God.
Today we all need to follow this very seriously because so many catches may have been dropped, so many opportunities lost where we could have won over people to Christ.
In the Parable of the Pearl, the merchant who finds a Pearl of great value, sells all that he has and goes to buy this Pearl and Jesus compares this Pearl to the kingdom of God. He urged the people to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all will be added unto them.
This symbolism should be adopted in our life. The Kingdom of God is the miraculous catch not just for us to recognize it but to lead others to recognize it too.
St. Alphonsus of Ligouri remarked, "He who trusts himself is lost. He who trusts God can do great things." and "He who desires nothing but God is rich and happy."
Also St. Ignatius of Loyola, a rich man who left all his riches to become poor for the kingdom of God stated, " What is the use of gaining the whole world and forfeiting your soul?"
John 7:38 says, "Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."
This continuous supply of living water can be found in the Master himself.
Sin is the fault line in our life. Any region which has a fault line is prone to an earthquake. The tremors are the consequences of sin.
We should strive from the start to prevent a fault line appearing in our life and gaining a permanent hold.
When we are free from the stain of sin, nothing can prevent us from the ultimate catch of getting through the biggest stadium never seen on earth, the arena of heaven where each is a potential player and all are winners.
Hence we must make sure that we do not miss the miraculous catch of the kingdom of heaven.
