“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’ ” John 8:12

   There were those who had been standing around, watching all that had taken place and now Jesus addresses them.

   Light is needed to dispel darkness and where darkness abounds a great light is needed ; a light that illuminates every corner where darkness lurks and seeks to keep its domain.

    Light is offered by the Lord Jesus to those who walk in darkness. Isaiah prophesied of this Light ( “The people who walked in darkness
Have seen a great light;
Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death,
Upon them a light has shined”. Isaiah 9:2 ), that would come into the world and the people were seeing this Light firsthand.

   Jesus did not say I was the light of the world or I will be the light of the world, but “I am the light of the world” ...an ongoing, never-failing light in this dark and fallen world.

   He was (is) and will be the light to lead people to salvation and He is the light to illuminate the walk of His saved ones .

   Oh, how desperately that light is needed. Why walk in darkness when we can have the Light of life ?
