“Then they said to Him, ‘Where is Your Father?’ Jesus answered, ‘You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.’

These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; and no one laid hands on Him, for His hour had not yet come.

Then Jesus said to them again. ‘I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come.’ ”

John 8:19-21

Jesus is telling the Pharisees truths concerning His identity. He would be going away, back from whence He came, back to the Father, back to Heaven. Those around would be mystified as to what had happened to Him, as they did not believe that He was who He said He was.

Those who believed would know that He had taken up His position in Heaven as risen Saviour and would not be looking for Him on earth but eagerly anticipating His return to come.

Not so with the “religious” crowd and because of their unbelief they would “die in their sin” and not enter the Heaven where Jesus had gone. “Where I go, you cannot come.”
