                      We’re Never in Darkness

If I say, “Let only darkness cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to thee, the night is bright as the day for darkness is as light with thee. Psalm 139:11-12 RSV

In my senior years I’m apt to wake up during the wee hours of the morning. I’ve come to recognize; these moments are not wasted time. Trying to get back to sleep. Rather, opportunity to listen. Those Spiritual promptings, when our Lord wants to get my attention without all those daily interruptions. He has me all to Himself.  

I recognize more, why our Lord would go up on the Hillside by himself and spend all night listening to the Father.

Remembering, when my wife and I would take our trailer up north camping and fishing. During those evening hours after dinner. Sitting outside, looking to the light of night. Listening to the stillness of the night. How calming it was.

Such that… when I wake now during those times that might be called sleepless nights, I want to listen to the sound of silence… when our Lord is seeking my attention.

His presence is always with us, His workmanship for us to take hold, to comfort, instruct, and lead, because God doesn’t sleep.

Living for Jesus is even when we least expect it.! Through the hours of what I call ‘Nightwatch.’ I’m more tuned to be still, listening for the power of quiet. Recognizing; even the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light for our Lord to lead.

Father, thank you for allowing me to listen to the sounds of ‘Nightwatch,’ when your Spirit might waken me-Amen
