                 Being Lukewarm is Doubting

“I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot!  So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.” Revelation 3:15-16 ESV

The angel wrote to the seven churches mentioned in the Book of Revelation, he spoke harsh words to them. Especially addressing the Church at Laodicea. Sometimes we might be ‘nearsighted,’ we don’t see ‘The Big Picture.’
 
Being ‘lukewarm’ can be recognized as straddling the fence.  One foot so much in the world and all its temptations, and the other foot with wanting to please our Lord. But wearing the Name ‘Christian,’ we’re to live totally as New Creatures ‘in Christ,’ not of the everchanging world around us. In other words… ‘Lukewarm’ doubting the power of our Lord’s sufficiency to meet all our needs.

It was 50 years ago this year, I became a single parent, with three little one to care for, love, and nurture. I too, was challenged to let go, in order to find His sufficiency and NOT lean upon my reasoning and resources.
  
And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” 
Luke 9:23-24

Finding ‘my life’ meant not struggling to believe I knew more than God who created me. Not to doubt His grace and sufficiency.

Father, thank you for teaching me to lose my life in order to live in your omnipresent sufficiency. Getting rid of doubt to receive hope promised. AMEN
