Marriage

Usually during this season, there are a lot of Christmas plays, productions, cantatas, and other celebrations to make the season special...and usually we are part of the one that is put together by our church...but last night, we had occasion to attend one at another church...and sitting there in the audience, half-way through the show, it suddenly struck me with such overwhelming sweetness, and the real meaning behind this particular celebration became crystal clear to me.

Here I sat in a pew in an unfamiliar church, watching people I mostly did not know, put together and present to us both the wrong and the right reasons we celebrate. And one of the characters said a line - one I've heard before, but it's words shot straight into my heart...it was that one of the names we use for Jesus is Immanuel, which means "God with us"...and for us as Christians, this means always, for now He lives within each of us, never to depart.

Along with that, came such quiet joy that I was sitting there next to you.... with my hand enclosed in yours, I was leaning against your arm, I wasn't alone any more, I was one half of two! It is hard to explain the depth of my joy, the overwhelming sense of gratitude that I felt, that Jesus tended to such exquisite detail, when He made my dreams come true.
For Jesus knew my heart, He knew that to me it was the small things, not large ones that mean more.... and into my life He brought that special love in you, my husband whom I adore.

For you bring me every day, a thousand 'small things' that mean so much, the ones that show love, that are more precious to me than gold.... holding my hand in yours, the look of love in your eyes, the strength of your arms holding me tight...these are what speak love to me, without saying a word.

These are the things that can't be bought, they can only be given away...and you give them to me by the thousands each day, and I feel rich beyond measure, for this love came from God, and was given to us, together we share this treasure.
