I was thinking this morning of the music that is part of the ending scene of our Christmas play...it was a familiar carol, played with a new and different sound, each note sounding just like a bell. It started out so softly, just a whisper playing under the words that were said, and when that part was done...the volume was turned up, and the music soared on high, and voices joined in with the bells, and suddenly it all became one.

And I think back, not so very long ago, when there was no music in my heart.... or at least that is what I thought.... but now I know it was always there, but so quiet that I had covered it up with noise. When I finally tired of all the noise, realizing it was not filling up the hole in my heart, and in the still of the night, I asked Jesus in to my heart, and His music suddenly overshadowed the din. Jesus swept my heart clean of all the debris and noise and sorrow, and His music, like His love filled every space...and the hole in my heart was healed by His touch, His peace filled me as I sought His face.

But, oh, He wasn't done, though Jesus gave me His peace, now He wanted to fill me with joy.... so into my life, He brought you to me, and we fell in love, my dream of dreams had come true. God had given me His peace, and in you He gave me joy, and the music in my heart was all I could hear.... I’d sung the verse alone, but now your voice joined mine, together we sing the chorus with those bells.

The carol melts into a brand new song, a melody of true and lasting love, and our notes join together as they rise in the air, and become a song of thanks and praise to the One who brought us together, the author of love, God above!

And each new day brings a song that's not been sung before, we add the notes as we live out our love, and God provides the paper upon which we write...and I'm filled with the joy of discovery and anticipation too, to see just what the song will be this day...it may be a dancing little jig, or a sweeping symphony chorus, or a single instrument sounding a gentle tune...what it turns out to be isn't the important thing, it is that the music expresses the love that I feel, and the joy that we're together in this song...I am made complete in the love I have in you.
