                            ‘What If…’ Don’t Count

 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,  For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge.
 2 Peter 1:3,5 ESV 

One morning something came up about a situation that was concerning one of my daughters-in-law. Not necessarily fearful, but wanting us to be more mindful for our safety. I was thankful for her concerns. My daughter-in-law, who I love dearly, asked, “But Dad, what if…?”  She looks in on us every day to know how we’re doing. My wife and I are in our 80’s, and we’re blessed with much gratitude and love, how our children watch over us.

My children are not necessarily where we are, yet, recognizing the preeminence of God’s power, grace, and resources, to fully lean upon. But then, neither were we at their age.

We all overcome our fears at what the bible teaches as a milk bottle introduction to living by faith. (Hebrews 5:12-13) Building faith over fear. Not what we should try to control and manipulate . ‘What if….’ is learning to go from the ‘safe zone,’ to the ‘faith zone.’ Leaning upon God’s sufficiency and promises.

When we come to a determined decision in our life to receive, and live through the power of God’s preeminent authority, it takes learning what the Apostle James defines as, being a doer of God’s word. (James1:22) . Feeding on the solid foundation what our lord teaches, letting go of
‘what if….?’

Father, teach us all, to remove ‘what if’s’ from our vocabulary.
