                                                             Taking Heed…

“Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God” Hebrews 12:3 NKJV

We too, must be mindful not to allow our own hearts be taken in from so much evil happening around us every day. As I pray daily for the family’s of recent shootings, my heart cannot feel the emptiness these family’s are feeling, but to ask our Lord for His grace to them.  

God will warn us through the actions of others, an evil heart is defined here, in effect, as an unbelieving heart. A heart that refuses to receive God’s amazing love. I pray often for myself, and my loved ones, my heart will not be led astray, but remain focused upon God’s promises.  

As in modern languages, the ancient Hebrew used the term “heart” to mean the inward motivations that control a person’s words and deeds. Unless we purpose in our own heart to live under God’s authority and promises, we too, might tend to become casual with God. I dare not want to become casual in my determination to know more of God’s promises for strength of spirit and trusting faith.

I determine my words be through His Holy Spirit’s prompting. To His honor! Whether writing a short devotional, an essay for publication, or more lengthy sermon: it’s all about Him, not myself. Gathering inspiration to encourage others can be rewarding with much blessing, but I purpose always to not allow any unbelief or self-centered thought to prevail.

Father, thank you for allowing even me to ‘Take Heed’ and not me speak or write words that might cause another to stumble.
