The letter of the law can only bring condemnation and death. It is designed to create dis-ease for those who are not right with God, the unrighteous. The dis-ease comes from the Holy Spirits conviction of their sin that leads them to know they are not right with God.
“And He, when He comes (HOLY SPIRIT), will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me (UNBELIEVERS CONVICTED OF SIN OF UNBELIEF BY HOLY SPIRIT); and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you (Disciples – Believers) no longer see Me (BELIEVERS CONVICTED OF THEIR RIGHTEOUSNESS BY JESUS BLOOD, NOT SIN) ; and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. (SATAN)” John 16:8-11 NAS (EMPHASIS MINE)
This dis-ease comes from the condemnation they are under that leads to death.
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. John 3:18 NAS
The letter of the law cannot minister life, it can only minister condemnation and death by showing a person they are not right with God.
But if the ministry of death, in letters engraved on stones, came with glory, so that the sons of Israel could not look intently at the face of Moses because of the glory of his face, fading as it was, how will the ministry of the Spirit fail to be even more with glory? For if the ministry of condemnation has glory, much more does the ministry of righteousness abound in glory. 2 Cor 3:7-9 NAS
This is one of the reasons Christians are not qualified to serve up condemnation and death, the letter of the law. We are only qualified to be ministers of the Spirit of the law which is love (Rom 13:8-10, Gal 5:4) that serves up life.
And He has qualified us as ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. 2 Cor 3:6 NAS
It is the Holy Spirits job to convict the unbeliever of their unrighteousness before God, their sin of unbelief, their need for The Savior. It is our job to constantly offer up life in Christ. If an unbeliever rejects this conviction from the Holy Spirit unto death, they blaspheme the Holy Spirit by calling him a liar. This is the only unforgivable sin. It is the sin of unbelief. The refusal to run to the Savior for safety. This is Satans goal for people. To keep them in unbelief about the truth and simplicity of the gospel.
So why do believers still experience so much dis-ease that leads to disease, when they are not under condemnation according to Jesus? When they are supposed to be walking in Jesus peace that surpasses all understanding and overcomes all things.
They mix the Old Covenant letter of the law that was given by Moses with the New Covenant of grace and truth that came by Jesus. The New Covenant that fully replaced the Old Covenant. These cannot be mixed even a little or we lose the power of the gospel.
But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace. Rom 11:6 NAS
"No one puts new wine (NEW COVENANT MESSAGE) into old wineskins (OLD COVENANT MESSAGE); otherwise the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the skins as well; but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins." Mark 2:22 NAS (EMPHASIS MINE)
The New Covenant that Jesus shed his blood to install – Luke 22:20. In other words, no matter what they claim, most believers think they are under grace plus the law. This despite the fact that the Bible is extremely clear that Jesus is the end of the law for all who believe and that we are dead to and freed from the law.
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. Rom 10:4 NAS
So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification (RIGHTEOUSNESS) of life to all men. Rom 5:18 NAS (EMPHASIS MINE)
realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person (ALL BELIEVERS), but for those (ALL UNBELIEVERS) who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers 1 Tim 1:9 NAS (EMPHASIS MINE)
But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. Gal 3:23-25 NAS
When a Christian falsely believes they are under the dominion of the law to even a minute degree, they place themselves in their mind under condemnation because they know they still fall short daily. This false belief creates some level of dis-ease that leads to disease by giving sin (sin the noun – our inherited fallen nature from Adam) dominion in their life.
For sin (NOUN – FALLEN INHERITED SIN NATURE) will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. Rom 6:14 ESV (Emphasis mine)
The only thing Sin can do, Sin our inherited fallen nature, is pay the wage of death. Death comes from dis-ease about a person’s standing with God that leads to disease.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom 6:23 NAS
How do you know if you believe you are still under the law even slightly? If you fear that sin separates you from God and have any inkling of fear of punishment for your sins, you are looking at yourself in relationship to God’s law.
Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. 1 John 4: 15-18 NAS
This is not where your eyes are supposed to be fixed if you want to be transformed more and more into His image. Your eyes are supposed to be fixed on Jesus and His finished work on the cross that made you righteous. He is the author of our faith. He also perfects our faith as we keep our eyes fixed upon Him and His finished work.
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Heb 12: NAS
But we all, with unveiled face (UNVEILED FACE MEANS NO LONGER UNDER THE OLD COVENANT LAW OF MOSES – TURNING TO CHRIST REMOVED THE VEIL), beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit. Heb 12:2 NAS (EMPHASIS MINE)
There is absolutely no condemnation for a believer even when they sin because they are no longer under the law, period. The only thing that brings condemnation is the letter of the law under the Old Covenant. The only one who wants you to think you are still under the law and the condemnation it brings is Satan.
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. John 3:18 ESV
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Rom 8:1 NAS
Believers are under grace where God is not imputing, not counting our sins.
For the Law brings about wrath, but where there is no law, there also is no violation. Rom 4:15 NAS
sin is not imputed when there is no law. Rom 5:13b NAS
"for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more." Jer 31:34NAS
"FOR I WILL BE MERCIFUL TO THEIR INIQUITIES, AND I WILL REMEMBER THEIR SINS NO MORE." Heb 8:12 NAS
"AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE." Heb 10:17 NAS
"I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, And I will not remember your sins. Isa 43:25 NAS
As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:12 NAS
"I have wiped out your transgressions like a thick cloud And your sins like a heavy mist. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you." Isa 44:22 NAS
To believe other than these verses clearly state is doubt and unbelief in God’s word. Doubt invites fear, worry and condemnation that brings dis-ease and not the peace of God that Jesus died to give you. This is not what your Father wants for you, His child. This is why over and over Jesus tells you not to fear or worry. This is why you have been given Jesus righteous that leads to peace and joy, and no longer need to live in dis-ease with regards to your standing with God. Jesus brought us peace with God. Your heavenly Father is for you and not against you. You are forgiven and under grace where your sins are not counted. Jesus gave you His righteousness, right standing, and peace with God that He describes in this next verse. Your only job is to not let your heart be troubled or afraid and trust Him wholly. If you think you are still under the law at all, your heart will be troubled, dis-ease. Start today to walk in His peace that overcomes all things, even the Old Covenant law of God.
"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. John 14:27 NAS
We have permanent peace with God in Christ! There is zero condemnation in Christ for you Christian.
We are careful not to judge people by what they seem to be, though we once judged Christ in this way. Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new. God has done it all! He sent Christ to make peace between himself and us, and he has given us the work of making peace between himself and others.
What we mean is that God was in Christ, offering peace and forgiveness to the people of this world. And he has given us the work of sharing his message about peace. We were sent to speak for Christ, and God is begging you to listen to our message. We speak for Christ and sincerely ask you to make peace with God. Christ never sinned! But God treated him as a sinner, so Christ could make us acceptable to God. 2 Cor 5:16-21 CEV
