Fresh Eyes – Lasting Fruit
God has made us like the tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season (Psalms 1:3).
FRESH EYES
Today I read the first chapter in the book of Genesis as though I had never read it before. How we take some things for granted! I generally do not spend much time in the first book of the bible, assuming rather that I knew all that I needed to know about it: That God created the heavens and the earth. I trust and believe this statement to be so.
But today I looked back on the first chapter with awe! God gave me fresh revelations. One of which was an understanding of how we mark time is quite different than our Creator. God says that the evening and the morning were considered the first Day (Gen 1:5). Whereas we consider the morning and the evening to be a complete day. Very interesting. The Jewish calendar marks days the same way that the Lord does; from night to night. This is because the earth was without light and void before God spoke it into existence.
I also marveled that God calls the other planets ‘stars’.
At one point there was water beneath the earth. This is why people of the earth did not receive Noah’s prophecy that water would come from the sky. They thought he was a mad man. Oh, that we would believe the report of the man of God!
FRESH FRUIT
Another very interesting point is that on the third day, God commanded trees to bring forth its fruit (Gen 1:12). He specifically stated that each tree had within itself its own seed! We do not have to wonder what came first – the chicken or the egg. Indeed I say, it was the chicken! My mind immediately goes to the spiritual life cycle of a believer. The seed of what we are to come has already been planted within us. We do not need to search anything outside of ourselves for this.
The question then becomes, how we access this great seed within. The answer comes from the same place in which we came to be: Our Creator. Every tree has within itself the ability to produce and re-produce. There are also seed times and harvest times. And each tree is to bring forth fruit of its own kind (Matt 12:35). We cannot expect a lemon trees to bring forth oranges. Or an apple tree to bring forth melons. So is it with man.
I daresay that I have come to a point in my life in which I do not strive to be something that I am not. I am rather content being a woman of God. I desire to be a woman of virtue. I no longer contend with the world; struggling to find an identity or a place in it. Instead, I desire to receive greater understanding of this great seed that the Lord so graciously has planted within.
Jesus said that He told stories in parables to make them simpler for man to understand (Matt 13:34). He also used parable concerning trees in order to teach the disciples and other followers. Let us remember the parable of the fig tree.
I often pray and ask the Lord to make me to be the woman that He had in mind when He created me. The seed of this is already inside of me. It is for a time and place and season that this will be so. This is not a probability: it certainly must be! For Jesus said “Heaven and earth will pass away but my words will by no means will pass away” (Matt 24:35).
This statement is of great encouragement, which I would like to pass on to my brothers and sisters in Christ. When we are seeking and are being challenged in our walk with the Lord, we can often become weary in well doing. We do not see the fruit of our labor- just yet. But it will surely come to pass. This reminds me of the scripture in Ecclesiastes, written well before Jesus Christ was born and spent time on the earth: We cast our bread upon the waters and look towards the horizon day after day without seeing the results. Our love letter from above, God’s Word, states that we shall find it after many days (Ecc 11:1).
Indeed, it has taken many days for the things of God to occupy parts of my life. There were things that had to be seasoned just right before God could use it for His glory! After all, we want the fruit that we bring forth to last. This is a good thing. So, for such greatness, the Lord takes us through periods of perfection. These times can be incredibly challenging – the very testing of our faith. But if we are to bring forth such greatness too early, the blessing will be lost. We certainly want our fruit to be a source of nourishment for others, who also have God’s incredible seed within them!
Let us know that the things we endure are for our perfection in Christ Jesus (Luke 22:32). But the fruit we produce are also food for those who come behind us. Our legacy to the younger generations, who will take up the mantle and carry on after us, is of extremely importance to the Kingdom of God. Let us be a shining example of what God can do if we only allow Him.
This requires us to seek guidance in His Word, with fresh insight and understanding.
Be encouraged.
