Seasons

"Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” Psalm 136:1

With the changing colors of the leaves and cooler temperatures, it is obvious that we have switched from one season to another. Nature has been finely tuned to move from one to another in a very predictable fashion. After all, it is even on the calendar so we know exactly when the transformation takes place.

Our spiritual lives also go through seasons, but those changes may not always be as predictable. Winter can last for five months instead of three and the summer may be over in 4 weeks instead of 13.

One thing remains constant through it all - the mercy of our Lord. There may be times of drought in the heat of the day or frozen tundra in the darkness of night, but His mercy endures forever. It is not based on my performance, although I could always do better. It just flows from His perfect heart of love.

It is refreshing and reassuring to know, that during those times, when we cannot feel or hear Him, His mercy endures forever. No matter what season you are in right now, if your tree is barren or the blossoms are springing forth everywhere – His mercy endures forever. What a blessed hope we have in our Lord.
