We live in a world where everything moves at a fast pace as unending responsibilities, obligations and events keep us on the go. In the end we find ourselves at times distracted from life’s purpose. We tend to fill every minute of every day with man-made responsibilities. In the process our Christian responsibilities get pushed to the wayside. Before we know it we are looking back wondering what has happened to us.

Consequently we have found ourselves unable to give anymore because our reserve has completely run dry. We have no more compassion or desire to serve Christ. We no longer read God’s Word with anticipation, but only reach for it out of obligation. We have become focused on ourselves, in other words self-centered.

Sad is the day when we as Christians have nothing to look forward to but the consequences of our neglect. I see it everyday. Undoubtedly we all know people who profess their strong trust in God, but their lives reflect the trust they have established in themselves. Perhaps as you read this, you realize this has happened to you. When we compromise our present convictions, we must realize the future consequences.

Today, I have a good word for you! We can get back on track with God and become God-centered in just a few minutes. We don’t need to be slipping and sliding as if we are being pulled by an invisible force to the way of destruction. We can stand firm in God when we relinquish our cares and concerns to Him.

“Cast all your cares upon the Lord. He will sustain you. He will not permit the Godly to slip nor fall.”
(Psalm 55:22) NIV

You see, when we tend to bear our own burdens, we then find ourselves allowing outside circumstances to dictate to us how we should react. Subsequently, we fill our calendars with appointments, obligations and selfish desires, only to leave God out. When we come to the end of each day we are too exhausted to remember to thank God for bringing us through it. When we carry our own burdens we lose sleep as well. What does this lead to? It leads to us beginning our day without God.

Are you ready to stop slipping and sliding through every day? Are you ready to become more focused and to live a more purposeful life? Cast your cares on Him. He will hold you up, keep you focused and give you strength so that you will not fall into man-made temptations. It starts with a simple prayer of repentance and a willingness to surrender our whole heart to God.

Lord forgive me my selfish ways
That keep me from
You everyday.

Keep me focused and sincere
As I trust not myself
And all my abilities

Keep all of my cares
Surrendered to You.
That I may have peace.

Direct me and lead me
And keep me on track
So I may not fall

A heart of surrender
A prayer of repentance
Is a life worth living

For You alone
The keeper of my heart
Will sustain me.

Amen.
