Displaced among us are many who have called themselves believers yet have left their convictions in the Sunday morning pew. Living a life called of higher purpose seems unattainable and to many undesirable. Since I came to know the truth as a young teenager I have found it very difficult to profess my love and devotion to Christ and walk in the old dim light of my ways. When I even come near the desires of the old man within me, my heart stands compelled to convict and direct me on that narrow pathway once again. Notice I did not say my heart condemns me, for Jesus does not condemn us, but He gently leads us into the lighted pathway of hope. Condemnation only deals with the flesh leaving one hopeless. However, conviction controls the spirit of man which brings us life.

Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all the day.
(Psalm 25:5) NASB

To live in the real world you have to depend on the Living Christ within you daily. Unfortunately we find ourselves dependent on our own talents and gifts at times to provide for life’s necessities. As a believer this should never be. Since my day of reckoning when I came to the realization that I alone can’t make it, and that I needed a Savior to come along side me on this journey of life, I have never been the same. Have there been times when I have forgotten His presence? Yes. Did that come to mean that He was not there? No. Regretfully I have taken Jesus to places I could honestly say I am ashamed of. Did it make Him love me less? No. Mostly, with confidence I can say He never left me. With His gentle hand He once again led me through the darkness into His forgiving light.

Though we may leave our convictions inside the church house on Sunday morning, and though we may lay God’s Word aside refusing to be changed, we are not walking this tundra alone. Inviting Jesus to live in us and through us brings us victory, joy, hope and comfort. Forgetting He is with us, by taking the lead brings us defeat, mourning, hopelessness and lack of peace. I’ve walked both roads, and I have chosen to recognize His presence and give Him permission to re-direct the man-made plans of my life. When I find myself wavering I quickly reassess the situation by asking myself, “Who’s in the lead?”

Our times are in Thy hand;
Father, we wish them there!
Our life, our souls, our all we leave
Entirely in Thy care.
