Sometimes we forget how incredibly small we are. This last week I took my son, who was visiting from Texas, on a train trip through the Royal Gorge. The scenery was spectacular as the train emerged into the canyon directly under the world’s highest suspension bridge. Our eyes were fixed upon the grandeur masterpiece above us. The people standing on the bridge were almost unnoticeable due to the massiveness of its construction. Our journey took us through scaling mountains and river beds. It brought us along side some lazy river rafters as well as taking us back in time to where the canyon dwellers lived decades ago.


We met some most interesting people; one being a Rabbi from Brooklyn New York. He and his beautiful family were vacationing. My son told him I was born in Brooklyn and thus a conversation emerged between them and us. As there small daughter came out of the cabin to the viewing deck, Tim turned towards me and said, “Mom, she looks just like you did when you were a little girl!” We both laughed when the mother boastfully spoke of her daughters curly hair and how ‘yummy” it was.


As our two hour journey through the Rockies ended via railway, we embarked upon our return back home. The scenery of mountains and valleys kept us in marvel at God’s wondrous grace and beauty. Reflecting back at the Royal Gorge I was taken back out how insignificant I felt with mountains at both my sides and a bridge several thousand feet dangling above me. But no matter how small or intimidated I might of felt, I could rest assured in knowing that my God could see me. King David was well aware of this as he proclaimed:



Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where
can I flee from Your presence?

(Psalm 139:7) NASB


Even as an adult in mid - life I still stand amazed at the greatness of my God and His ability to even notice me. I can imagine standing in the palm of His huge hand and running for days – yet never being able to cover the entire perimeter of it. I also find rest in the palm of the Almighty. God’s hand is like no other. His palm is filled with grace, forgiveness and healing. For within His palm lies a beautiful scar reflecting His true love and devotion to me. That is why I love Him so!



So, the next time you feel that maybe God can’t see you or feel your pain, remember this one thing. The Hand that created the universe in its entirety and splendor created you and me in our minute state and placed us in our mother’s womb. The same God that breathed life into us is the same God that walks with us daily continuing to inspire us by breathing hope and healing upon us. The God that dared not to show His face to Moses, in that he would die, is the same compassionate God that desires for us to live a full life. The God who spent forty days in the wilderness of testing and sinned not, is the same God who empowers us to overcome sin. What else can I say but Selah!
