Even though there are political reasons why America is losing wars, there is also an answer from the Bible. Deuteronomy 28 and Psalm 21 both have something to say about it. In each of these chapters winning wars is connected with obedience to God and trusting in Him.
Deuteronomy 28 mentions in verses 7-8, "The Lord will cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you; they shall come out against you one way and shall flee before you seven ways. The Lord will command the blessing...in all that you put your hand to..." Then in verses 20 and 25 a reason is given for not winning. Because of disobedience God will send "curses, confusion, and rebuke in all you undertake to do...and you will be "defeated before your enemies." Psalm 21, on the other hand, lists several positive things that will happen when "the king trusts in the Lord."
To what degree are America's government and military leaders consulting God for wisdom when divising strategies against its enemies? Is God actually causing confusion, and cursing its foreign policy and ability to win wars because of disobedience to His ways? It would be interesting to see what would happen if President Obama and other leaders came humbly before God, seeking His counsel before going on the battlefield. Is America not experiencing success in the Middle East because the president has turned his back on the nation Israel?
Deuteronomy goes on to say, in reference to disobedience, that "the alien which is among you shall rise higher and higher, but you shall go down lower and lower"(verse 43), and "the Lord will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth...a nation whose language you shall not understand, a nation of fierce countenance who shall have no respect for the old, nor show favor to the young"(verses 49-50).
Even though this was not written to America, are there not some striking parallels here? Doesn't it describe exactly what is happening today? The Islamic State is rising up against America. The alien is becoming more important than the citizen. There is confusion with no clear objectives in foreign policy and the winning of wars. Whether it is a "boots on the ground" war, or wars against terror or immigration, America is losing. Now, to make matters even worse, God has been kicked out of the military. It is a sad day for America, militarily.
