Unpredictable Joy
My companion cat Joy is unpredictable. Sometimes she sleeps through me calling her and other times she is right at my feet. She jumped up from her nap and when running across the house, I think intending to jump up on my bed, but when she got to the end of the kitchen, she skidded to a halt on the tile floor just short of crashing into my bedroom door. Making a quick u-turn, she ran back to the other end of the house. When I walked towards her, she looked like a cat on stilts with her tail stretched as high as it could go, standing on her "tippy paws". Then she hopped like a kangaroo with her hair standing straight up. I took another step and she pivoted, taking off like a hyena.
When I threw the ball across the room, she chased it but stopped when she got to it, looking around at me as if to say well, get it yourself. Then she walked back to me, sat at my feet, and looked up at me with those big brown eyes and meowed…a retriever she’s not.
Sitting down to read, I watched her out of the corner of my eye. She has a lot of toys but never plays with them so I put them all inside the green cube where she likes to crawl in and out. One of the toys is a battery-operated furry weasel attached to a ball. When turned on, the weasel chases the ball across the floor. When she first got it, she chased it, but then it became boring to her and she ignored it. Well this day she saw the weasel hanging over the edge of the cube and investigated. When she touched it, it moved, and she jumped back. So she pounced on it, grabbed it with her claws, and tried to pick it up. It slipped through her paws, and she jumped back again. She kept pouncing on it, trying to toss it around, but as soon as she saw me with the camera, she turned and walked right up to the camera, placing her nose right on the camera—her way of saying don’t take my picture! Satisfied when I put the camera down, she curled up next to me for her morning nap, stretched, and rolled over on her back inviting me to rub her belly.

I had a thought. In the first paragraph, you began in present tense, and then switched to past tense at "She jumped up from her nap." Maybe something added there, such as "The other day, she jumped up from her nap", would help the transition from introduction to story flow better?
I laughed so hard reading about Joy putting her nose on the camera. Great piece!
