“Don`t Look Back! (Remember Lot`s Wife)

Jesus tells us in ST. Luke 17:27-32, “They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark. The flood came and destroyed them all; likewise also as it was in the days of Lot. They did eat, they drank, they bought; they sold, they planted and they built. But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from Heaven and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the son of man is revealed. In that day, he, which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away. He that is in the field let him likewise not return back. Remember Lot`s wife. The thought that I leave is don`t look back! Remember Lot`s wife.

In the book of Genesis within the eighteenth and nineteenth chapters, we see that the Lord wanted to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because of their great cry and their sin that were grievous. In Chapter 19:13, The Angels told Lot “For we will destroy this place because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord has sent us to destroy it”. Genesis 19:24-26 says, “Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord, out of heaven and he over threw those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. But his (Lot) wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. She looked back because she missed the city that was now being destroyed.

It is no secret that the Christian life is not easy. In my opinion, if it were everyone would be saved. In times of trouble, the easiest thing to do would be to look back at the pleasures of the flesh alcohol, drugs, etc and get our release from the problems of life. Some us miss the clubs the women or men, we miss that whole atmosphere of “fun”. We try to sneak a little of this or a little of that into our salvation and it does not work like that. When we do this we create more problems for ourselves. Now as I read Ephesians 6:11-17, I see that we must wear the whole armor of God at all times. We girt our loins with truth, we have the breast plate of righteousness, our feet shod with peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. Now the title of this message is called Don`t Look Back!” Now the word back means the rear part of the human body. As I read this book, I came to the conclusion that we have no protection for the back because we don`t turn back no matter what! We move forward. Looking back is not part of the kingdom plan. When we got initiated into the Kingdom of God, it was never meant for us to walk away, but God is good and faithful. I don`t know everything but I do believe that God wants us to move forward and not look back. As hard as that is, God did say that whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world (1 John 5:4). Ephesians 6:13 talks about having done all, to stand. If we are standing we are not looking back.

St Luke 9:59-62 says “And he said unto another, follow me, but he said Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. Jesus said unto him, let the dead bury their dead, but go thou and preach the Kingdom of God. And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee but let me go bid them farewell, which are not home at my house. Jesus said unto him, no man having put his hand to the plough and looking back is fit for the Kingdom of God. You see God has done to much for us to look back even if we do not like what`s going on in our lives.

If we look back we could miss the ship when it pulls out. St Matthew 24:42 says watch therefore: For ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this that if the Goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Looking back could cost us. So don`t look back, remember Lot`s wife. Amen.
