Just as you do not know the path of the wind and how bones are formed in the womb of the pregnant woman, so you do not know the activity of God who makes all things.

Last week I had a dentist appointment. I have never had any dental work done by this dentist or his assistant before. As I was introduced to the assistant he was asking me what I did for a living etc. He told me that his wife was a writer too and that they attend a local church when they can. Anyway, he went on to ask me if I had read the very popular book called, "The DaVinci Code." I told him I had gleaned through the highlights of the book. He then went on to say, as if it were the gospel truth, all the things he had read in the book about Jesus and His life etc. He said that Jesus was married and had kids. He said these things are not stated in the scriptures and that the bible cannot be trusted as inerrant at all. He continued on to say how amazing it is that we evolved into the creatures we are today and how many millions of years old the earth is.

As I sat patiently listening to him, my inner man was blowing the whistle and yelling like a referee, "Foul! It's a foul!" I began to pray in my spirit. Knowing where this conversation was leading, I also knew in a few minutes that I would be numbed and somewhat incapacitated to continue it as the dentist arrived to begin his probing and drilling.

As soon as the dentist began his work, I signaled that I could feel a little pain. So he ceased his drilling immediately and administered a few more shots of blissful anesthesia.

As we waited for the medication to numb my gums, the assistant continued on. "Speaking for myself, who are we anyway?" I am just a nobody and have no significance, so what do I know about the bible or God?" I smiled and replied instantly. "Oh, you don't know how significant you are to God - do you?" He looked back at me shrugging his shoulders and almost embarrassingly replied, "I guess not." As I looked intently in his eyes, I knew I only had a few minutes to plea my case before the dentist returned. I went on to say that God loved him unconditionally. That he could continue on trying to find the answers to life's existence, problems and theories by studying books like The DiVinci Code or other theological works that are competently compiled by ingenious writers. But, until he comes to the realization that God knew Him before the foundations of the earth and that God lovingly placed him with tender care in his mother's womb, and gave him a free will to seek, know and find Him, that his expedition would always lead to the same dead end road; a road of un-satisfaction and insignificance. A road not designed by God, but by man.

It was apparent that what I said shook his inner core of beliefs. He sat there speechless with no response. I went on to say, "I am glad to know that God loves me more than Himself. He sent Jesus to die for me and my sins. I know I am significant in God's eyes. I know you are too and that He is in our presence today. This is the hope I live by, and this is the truth in which I surrender daily to. For my hope is in Christ and I'm reminded of my significance every time I see His nailed pierced hands."

I felt a gentle pat on my right arm. As I turned my dentist was smiling and looking at me with tears in his gentle eyes. You could have heard a pin drop. I knew then, as so many times before, that God had ordained my steps and led me where He wanted me to be at that very moment. As the dentist skillfully began, I prayed that God would complete His work in the life of the young man who was assisting the dentist that day.
