HAPPY LAST DAY
By Russell Hessler (450 words)

Happy Last Day?! What does that mean? Well, at the end of every month I would try to remember to wish my wife and “the family” a “happy last day”, signifying the end of an old month—with a subsequent wishing a “happy oneth day” on the following day. But, for the true follower of Jesus as Savior and Lord, it has far more significant and eternal ramifications! For those who are in Christ, an end to the physical life in this world means spending an eternal lifetime with Him. The Apostle Paul wrote in II Corinthians Chapter 5-v.6 and 8 about “being absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” (Old and New King James.) This most definitely should be a time of gladness (happiness) and rejoicing! Granted, the conditions of one’s passing can be less than ideal, if not downright tragic; and, this is by no means an attempt to belittle those circumstances and the grief they may ensue; but, is instead, a way to focus on the unspeakable joy that waits for those who pass-on to “the other side” in Christ.
So, in closing, please let this be a comfort, that for those believers whose time is “close at hand”, it will be truly a “Happy Last Day”!, and remember the old hymn, “Joy unspeakable and full of Glory!”
May the Lord bestow His richest blessings, favor, and comfort on all of you!
Amen.
