You see them all the time.

We pray for the victims as the traffic reports come in.

We scream at the rubberneckers as the speed limit is 65mph but we’re all doing 20mph to gawk at one another’s misfortune.

We thank God that it is not us in those shoes.

The longer we go without, we become complacent and comfortable. We become a little more lackadaisical and then … BANG!!

We fall victim to the carelessness of a fellow driver or our own carelessness … and the joys of all the consequences that follow.

Our faith is very similar. Things in our lives are going great. We are carefree … we are burden less. We become complacent. We tend to forget about God in these times … as we generally don’t call on Him, or perhaps don’t ‘feel’ His presence unless there’s trouble. And then … BANG!! Life throws a curveball. We scurry and scramble as if our lives have been turned upside down. We were not practicing focus on God during the good times and now that there’s trouble … well, that’s exactly what we focus on first.

If only we could learn how to include God in all of the good in our lives. If only we practiced focusing on Him through all the day, all our lives … rather than only when we are in trouble. Then trouble wouldn’t be so devastating. We would turn to God far quicker … find peace in the circumstance and get through it quicker … and be better for have gone through it.

I recently have experienced the joys of an accident and am still mulling through the steps and stages of insurance companies, body shops and doctors. This accident was 100% the other driver’s fault and much like our lives … “it’s not fair, but it’s true”. It’s not our fault … we don’t deserve it … but it’s happening regardless. We can complain, groan and moan all we want … that doesn’t make the circumstance go away, or make it any better. The only way out, is through.

Read the Book of Job. Blameless and upright with the Lord … loses it all without cause. Job supplies a great example of not cursing the Lord for his circumstances, yet he does question God … and God answers. In my opinion, God’s answer is a great read. The perspective it breathes on trusting God’s will and way is tremendous. We question what we could not possibly understand … and it many times takes us from what we know. God loves us and has a plan for us. Our time here on Earth is temporary and one day we will live with God in joy, forever.

I can only speak for myself when I say; I have nothing on the trials and tribulations of Job. I may not understand why things occur the way they have and/or are in my life … but I know that there’s a reason strongly related to whatever God’s purpose and plan is for me.

Your life is like a vehicle ... and the roads are best traveled if you allow Jesus to "Take the Wheel". Whether the drive is found to be smooth, traffic jammed, flat tired, fender bendered or worse ... He is in control and has specific cause in your life for your roads condition. Don't get caught up in the why as the accident has already happened. Stay focused on Him ... and allow Him to steer you through it.

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

Wordplay: The word ‘accident’ then becomes an interesting word. As God surely has a purpose and plan for each of us, is there truly such a thing as an ‘accident’?
