We are called to be light,
Reflect God’s love in this night
That the world might believe,
Trust in Christ, and receive
Salvation from each sin
As they find and follow Him;
This our task, to help them see.
We start out right, but suddenly-
Oh, shiney!

Worldly lights, glaring bright,
Dim the heavens from our sight.
Blinded by such taunting toys
Built for older girls and boys,
We get distracted from our task..
Commitment seems too much to ask
To a goal we no longer see,
Some vague tale of eternity-
Or our shiney!

We are called to be salty,
For earthly logic is so faulty
When each man seeks his own way,
Not finding cause to bow or pray.
We are disciples, taught to tell,
To share His word we would do well!
Turn the key, set the prisoner free,
Reach out a hand, but suddenly-
Oh, shiney!

Worldly pleasures, earthly trials,
Both of these are Satan’s wiles;
Drowning out what should be said,
Dampening down our daily Bread.
Words of life for words of strife,
Unsalted speech, unyielded life..
A stumbling block. Oh, never be!
Diverting lost ones when they see
Our shiney!

Holy One, Light of Heaven,
By You alone is salvation given!
Your Holiness fills the sky,
And will draw all people nigh.
Every knee and every voice
Bowed before You, can rejoice
Cleansed from sin and every shame-
Blood has whitened every stain!

Then when mortal time is done
And we behold the Sinless One,
Understand how much He gave
To rescue the hopeless from the grave,
Our unveiled eyes at last shall see
Through tears, His grace and majesty-
True Shiney!
