Divine Encounters
Note
- God is a God of Encounters. He loves meeting with people so that He can create relationships with them.
• God walked with Enoch
• He buried Moses Himself
• God called Abraham friend Isaiah 41v8 “But you, O Israel, you descendants of Abraham My friend”
• Jesus loved John very much and of all His disciples John died a natural death. He got the vision of the Revelation of things to come.
- Throughout the ages God visited generations of mankind till He appeared in the person of Jesus Christ. Later he came down to live in man’s heart as the Holy Spirit.
- We have had our own encounters but we should yearn to be new wineskins that can contain new wine

7 Things about a Worshipper
Based on the Life of David
1. Handpicked of God
• Jeremiah 1v5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew [Or chose] you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
• Romans 8v29-30 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.”
2. Have a heart relationship with God
• 1 Samuel 13v14 “the LORD has sought out a man after His Own Heart and appointed him leader of His people…”
3. Have experiences with God
• 1 Samuel 17v33-37 But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you.”
4. Are servants/ service minded
• 1 Samuel 16v21 David came to Saul and entered his service. Saul liked him very much, and David became one of his armour-bearers.
5. Consult God in all things
• 1 Samuel 30v8 and David enquired of the LORD, “Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?”
6. Reverence and Fear God
• 2 Samuel 7v18-29 “…Sovereign LORD, you are God…!”
7. Have pliable and malleable hearts
• Psalm 51

7 Dimensions of Worship

1. Dimension of Warfare
- Worship invokes the God of War, Jehovah Saboath, the Lord of Hosts
- It activates heaven’s armies to engage
• Joshua 10v12-15
• Jehoshaphat 2 Chronicles 20
• Jonathan versus the Philistines 1 Samuel 14
2. Dimension of Declaration
- God’s prophets proclaim and speak on behalf of God
• Elijah exercised declarative authority 1 Kings 17-18
• Peter declares the deity of Jesus Acts 2, 4
• The 4 lepers 2 Kings 7
3. Dimension of Thanksgiving
- Psalm 100, 103
- In all things give thanks
- Luke 17v11 one of ten lepers came back to say “Thank You”
4. Dimension of Adoration
- Fall in love with Jesus
5. Dimension of Revelation and Exposure
- The 24 Elders had a revelation of God
- John had a revelation of God
- Daniel had a revelation of God Daniel 2v20-23
6. Dimension of Promotion/ Elevation
- David was promoted because he was a worshipper
- Paul entered the third heavens 2 Corinthians 12v1-4
- Jesus was restored to glory because of worship
7. Dimension of Glory
- Moses encountered Glory in the mountain and in the Tent of meeting
- Isaiah 60v1 “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.”
- John 1v14 “We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, [Or the Only Begotten] who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

7 Worship encounters

1. David and God’s Ark 2 Samuel 6v1-15
- The Ark had brought blessing to Obed Edom’s house. It represented God’s Presence
- As David brought it back, every 6 steps, he sacrificed. He played the role of a priest
- He wore a linen ephod and served as priest
- He danced with all his might
- For 36 years there was open worship in the kingdom
- Acts 15v16-17 “`After this I will return and rebuild David’s fallen tent. Its ruins I will rebuild, and I will restore it, that the remnant of men may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who bear my name, says the Lord, who does these things’ [Amos 9:11,12]
2. Solomon 2 Chronicles 7
- He offered 120 000 animals
- God gave him more than he had bargained for
- Heaven came down 2 Chronicles 7v1-2 When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple. The priests could not enter the temple of the LORD because the glory of the LORD filled it.
3. Daniel
- He was schooled in all the wisdom of Babylon yet was set apart
• Daniel 1v17, 19-20 “To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.” The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king’s service. In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.
- He lived as a worshipper. Even in the lions’ pit he worshipped Daniel 6
4. Legion Mark 5v1-20
- He had harassed a man all his life making him a tomb dweller
- But when he saw Jesus he came and fell down in worship
- Jesus cast out the Legion spirit and the man was left in a right frame of mind, wearing clothes (a sign of covering)
- He went into the ten cities and testified about Jesus.
5. Anna Luke 2v26-38
- Lived to worship in fasting and prayer
- Saw the boy Jesus when He was brought to the Temple
- She was able to speak about the Child to all awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem
6. Acts Church
- Was birthed in worship and sustained in prayer of worship
7. Creation
- They join in the unending song of praise and adoration
- The design of worship is seen in this act as it restored new realms of worship
• Revelations 5v1 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honour and glory and power, forever and ever!”
