I didn't want to cancel the meeting for fear it would slow down the enthusiasm about the program I'd implemented for local nursing homes. So many of the residents didn't have any family members to bring them what they needed. Clothes, books, and several other items were collected and given out accordingly.
The "team" I’d assembled was kind enough to offer their help. I was known as the one who loved Jesus. It was in good fun nothing more.
There were five people on the committee...Bob, Marsha, Gina, Barbara, and of course, me. What transpired that night was recorded in my mind forever.
Basement of an Assisted Living Facility.
"Hey Bob be careful of what you say around here." Marsha tilted her head in my direction. "We can't be saying too many secular things of this world." She continued her blatant mocking in clear sight of me.
"I already know. We can't take the Lord's name in vain; we can't talk about murder in violent movies. And, of course we can't be openly hostile towards anyone, even those we hate. See? I think I've got it right." Bob laughed aloud, then continued, "You know we do this because we love you so much Alyssa...we just like playing around with you, the Saint of the group."
"Bob, play around all you'd like, as long as your mouth can accompany your packing and wrapping of presents." I kidded right back.
Barbara eyed a pretty pink sweater briefly before placing it in a box, then looked at me to ask, "Do you really believe all of that stuff about Jesus? Or do you hope it to be true? I mean, come on some of the stuff I've heard seems like a fairy tale book."
"Yes, I believe every single word. I believe the Bible is the inerrant writings and recorded history of what took place, through divine inspiration and instruction shared by prophets and disciples, and people the lord used for His purposes. I believe Jesus is the Son of God, and came to save us all from sin, and to fulfill the scriptures."
"Ha-ha! There you go again. You sound like a real zealot. " Marsha screamed with laughter.
"Laugh all you'd like people; it's actually a great thing for me. Jesus said, that those who believe in Him would be mocked and persecuted for His name sake. So, that means I'm doing something right. Thanks." I smiled as I gathered the presents and loaded them into a huge box by the door.
"Alyssa?" Gina called my name barely above a whisper.
"Yes Gina?"
"You seem to have it all figured out. You're kind and easy to get along with...and you don't shove your beliefs down anyone's throat."
I laughed and nodded before saying, "Well, I don't have it all figured out...no one does Gina. That's what God is for. If I could do things on my own, why then would I need Jesus?"
The room grew silent.
"Okay, well I think that's about it folks. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedules, and life, to help with this important project. I love you guys."
I walked out with the team. They car pooled but their car was covered with about ten inches of ice. And the snow wasn't making it any easier.
"Guys, you're welcome to hitch a ride me. The car should be okay until tomorrow, and maybe the maintenance man will be able to help you."
Bob asked, "What makes you think your car will be any better than mine?"
"Because I have faith, and God never deserts me. My car will be fine."
Bob and the others watched me, mouths agape. It was a game of wits—with Bob particularly—wanting to prove God wrong.
"Let's go." Bob mumbled.
I smiled and said, "Okay."
As we walked to my car on the far side of the parking lot.
Bob stopped in his tracks along with the others.
What greeted us was pretty amazing! My car was not only free from ice and snow, but glowing under the moonlit sky, the cross around my rear view mirror sparkling like a diamond.
"Are there any additional questions about God?”

Yes, I do believe is the perfect title for this. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to take their kidding the way she did, but that is something I have just learned to work on.
This is brilliant, and leaves me with a feeling of joy and peace.
Wing His Words
I was struggling a little with the subject of sharing our faith that I heard in this morning's church sermon. I literally was led to your writing here and was blessed by God, through your words. Thank you.
