O Love Divine
from all eternity shining
rays of love upon the waters
splashing life within the deep
and upon the land
where creatures stirred
and flew upward toward Your celestial throne
in lovingkindness Your grace veiled the earth
creating our earthly home
O Love Divine
from all eternity shining
rays of love upon the earth
whilst in the garden
taking clay unto Your palm
and in lovingkindness man came to be
when Love’s breath released life
and grace forevermore
O Love Divine
from all eternity shining
rays of love upon Calvary’s hill
caressing His cross
and as darkness fell
all heard the thunder of Your cry
shaking the foundations
of our earthly home
and in a moment of holy hush
alas heaven welcomed Your Son
upon His throne
Love breathed life unto the earth
awakening hearts
spreading grace forevermore
O Love Divine
from all eternity shining
rays of love upon my soul
breathe in me
life
and grace forevermore

I am enriched by it.
I wondered however about the line "Alas heaven welcomed Your Son" in the third stanza. Why 'alas'?
Simply beautiful and powerful.
