of rolling ocean waves,
the salt-rich air, the graceful gulls.
I want to walk the sandy carpet,
see the sunshine diamonds of a
summer morning and the
golden path to the moon at night.
I dream in a desert city,
eyes closed against the searing day,
conjuring passing cars
as ocean waves,
the ceiling fan to blow the wind
through my hair.
My mind's eye finds the foaming water
lapping painted china palms,
soaring, dipping birds
before I walk the scorching pavement.
Heirloom cup is like my dream,
the saucer like the prayer,
I'm there, I'm there.
My auntie's tea set makes me dream
of crackling fireplaces,
the red-rich leaf, the graceful fall.
I want to crunch the piles of foliage,
see the sunshine slant of an
Autumn morning, and the
smoke-filled trails to the moon at night.
I dream in a desert city,
eyes closed against the searing day,
conjuring climate control
as chilly winds,
the ceiling fan to blow the cold
through my hair.
My mind's eye finds the babbling brook
lapping painted china pumpkins,
dappling, falling leaves
before I walk the scorching pavement.
Heirloom cup is like my dream,
the saucer like the prayer.
I'm there, I'm there.
