Beginning and ending
Barely earning a notation
Upon the annuals of time
Names long forgotten
Heroes forsaken—
Once sworn never to be abandoned
The Empire where the sun never sets
Now shattered, a shadow of her greatness
A proud Empire,
Became the sick man of Europe
Splintering into countries
Emperors and pride, both easily shattered
Just like spun glass.
Century after century march past
Hundred years readily change
The world as we know it
Empires rise and fall
Kings and queens replaced
As the hands of time continue to move
Tick-tock tick-tock.
Why should we care?
This is nothing but dried bones—
Useless facts and dates.
Students complain
And teachers hope and pray
That maybe their students
Know enough to pass the test
After all, does it really matter?
Yes! It has to matter
More than merely making the grade
Or passing the class
It has to matter or else
Or else, everything that has been done
A desperate attempt for immortality
Will it all be for nothing?
Years march by like little tin soldiers
Lined up in neat little rows.
Never ceasing; let alone hesitating
And still they come
Will I be remembered?
I doubt it—at least not here on earth
But my name will be remembered for centuries in Heaven.
