And watched, through clouds of foaming spray,
Tumultuous waves beat on the shore,
So fierce, then spent – forevermore.
Their power and fury, strength and height
In just a second, gone from sight.
These same strong waves, when out at sea
Had lifted vessels forcefully,
Had risen and dipped with raging rule,
A killer surf, a sea most cruel.
With brawn and vigour, muscle force
Relentless on its onward course.
But giant breakers out at sea
Are not known for their permanency,
And quickly as they come, they go,
Such is a marine ebb and flow.
A parable lesson here unfolding
Before my eyes in truth beholding:
The rise of nations, empires, fashion,
Dictators showing no compassion,
Viewing their stance from human thought
Unending, great, in their import.
Not knowing that their godless might
Will quickly vanish - gone from sight.
God holds all seas within His hand,
His greatness, power, none can withstand.
As eras come and do not last,
We learn to say ‘It came, to pass,’
And rest in His Eternal Will,
The One who utters ‘Peace Be Still.’
