It was the smell pervading his nostrils that first made him stir and stretch. He jerked wide awake as his hand touched something familiar and yet new. Brown eyes popped open in shock, and surprise and drank in the sight next to him. He stood suddenly, colour draining from his face as he looked down at something, someone who looked like him, but not exactly the same.

“Adam,” a voice called.
Slowly Adam relaxed. That was a voice he knew well. “God?” he answered.
“Come,” God said.
Adam walked through the cooling grass, tripping over a hillock in his excitement to talk to the Creator.
“What is that? I have never seen a creature like that!” He exclaimed, as he met God under the stand of palm trees, their usual meeting place.
“She is your partner, Adam. She is your other half, just like the animals have partners so they won’t be lonely, I have created her from you Adam. She is a part of you.”
Adam beamed in joy. His Creator had seen how lonely he had felt. The cats were great company, but at the end of the day he needed more than a cat sleeping on his head and purring in his lap.

“Now Adam, I need to teach you some things to help you and Eve connect.”
Adam’s luminous chocolate-coloured eyes widened as God described the act of hugging to him. As he rushed off in the darkness, God smiled.

“God! God!” Adam’s voice rang through the star-filled heavens as he darted through the flower beds, ignoring for the first time the heady scent of night jasmine that raised its glorious smell to the skies.
“Yes Adam?”
“That was amazing! I have never experienced anything like that! Is there anything more?”
God’s lips curled slightly, “I am glad you asked Me that. Yes. Let Me tell you about kissing your partner.”

Adam hoofed it, hollering to Eve and obscuring even the noise of the bullfrogs and the crickets as they sang worship to their God. In the distance God overheard Eve giggle in delight as Adam showed her his latest moves.

Quietness fell. God waited. An eternity passed, and the world slept. Well, almost the whole world. Mice scuttled through the meadows, lilacs threw their perfume to the winds for all to enjoy and oak trees bowed their massive verdant heads in worship to the King.

God eventually heard what He had been waiting for. Adam’s voice came through the velvety shadows; his whole being was caught up in the moment, exuberance leaked from every pore of his perfect body.
“Oh God! That was perfect!” His words tumbled from him, unhindered by any inhibitions or self-consciousness.
The Lord looked with great love on this, His favourite; and said, “Ah, but Adam, I have saved the best for last.”
“You mean there’s more?” Adam could barely believe his ears. How could it get better than hugging and kissing this woman?
Incredulously Adam drank in the words spoken by God. His brow wrinkled at first as he tried to grasp the new actions he was meant to do; but his face brightened as God explained how this was part of His plan for he and Eve, and how it would bring them great pleasure.
Oh yeah! It sure will! Adam’s mind raced with the thought of combining the hugging, the kissing and now this! It would surely put Eve in raptures of delight.

Once more Adam left the palm trees, threading his way through the carnations and the rose beds, running as anticipation took over.

Two minutes later he was back at the palm trees. “God. What’s a headache?”

Pretty hilarious! We all knew you were leading up to some sort of punch line - pretty smooooooth!

Oh, a small thing but I'll mention it. In the first paragraph there's a comma that threw me: "Brown eyes popped open in shock, and surprise..." I don't think you need the comma after "shock."

Clever....although I betcha there weren't headaches in the Garden. :-)

Very witty! I was enjoying that – the idea of hugging and kissing needing to be explained! I think I feel a little let down by the end – but it was a good joke.

What an ending!!! This was so wonderfully told - and then to spring that ending on us??? I don't know what to say - other than it was certainly a surprise and a good laugh! Not sure if I liked it or not, but it certainly was NOT what I was expecting!

I loved how you described Adam waking up and seeing Eve for the first time and how amazed he was at the partner God gave him. I had never thought about God having to explain how to hug and kiss. It makes me wonder if He really did... I also liked immensely that the story was so intense and filled with the wonder of the first relationship ever and then you gave it that humorous twist at the end! I'll look forward to more from you!

Hilarious! I had to read it to my husband because he caught me laughing and had to know what for. I hoped to get through it without tumbling on the floor laughing, and I did.

Simply hilarious!
