upon the grass of Eden long ago,
and there in breezes new to earth’s sweet face
the great Creator breathed into a soul.
When Adam’s eyes first opened in the mist
God greeted him and loved His new made son.
They walked together in the garden’s midst
where all that God had made was Adam’s own.
God gave Adam ‘neath the garden’s sunlight
every treasure of sweet Eden’s wealth,
yet the man’s heart felt an empty sadness
in the verdant garden where he dwelt.
One more gift from God’s great Hand was fashioned.
Lovingly our God shaped daughter Eve.
On such a day as this in fairest Eden,
man and woman God’s great gift received.
Many years have passed since in the garden
our dear Father first joined man and wife.
Now before the Cross of Christ we gather
in the sacred stillness of new life.
Two shall be as one in hand and spirit.
One another’s heart is treasure rare.
All who gather celebrate this moment
as we join in sacred holy prayer.
May the God Who rules in earth and Heaven
plant a glorious garden that shall be
all the days before you that lie waiting
for your footsteps through eternity.
May your lives be filled with God’s great Goodness.
May your hearts be showered from above.
Into every moment of your union,
may Christ’s Spirit flow in ceaseless Love.
Dear sweet couple, as you kneel before Him
the glory of His sacred Cross shines clear.
Feel the blessings of your Heavenly Father
and the warmth of all who gather here.
Go in joy, and laugh in bright tomorrows!
Dance through shadows with strength from above!
Hand in hand and heart in heart together
grow in the Garden of the Father’s Love!
