Smoldering - the acrid unpleasantness of molten metal shaped by unsteady hands capable of such unspoken grief.
Mute, deaf and blind he knelt, his hammered bronze sheen belying the absolute perfection of beauty he once possessed, useless muscles echoing his unspoken unspeakable passion, now flaccid, now tormented. Straining, eternally bound with the unforgiving chains of his making, his wrong choices.
Painful to behold, hard to identify with, this once majestic unbelievable crystalline being now fallen to his unyielding knees, chained and locked? If you peered closely you would find a small key in his outstretched arm – the key to the lock. He had the key – he didn’t want to or know how to use it.
Phrenologists would love to examine his heavy metal head. Lumps aplenty, and not one of them directing him to obey God.
What drew my then unsaved husband to join rod to rod, heat from his torches, welding brass, bronze and steel to create “Fallen Angel”? Did it materialize like Aaron’s calf?
My husband was once a gifted sculptor, a terrific artist - imaginative and excitingly handsome. He had only one good hand with which to create, being limited by Parkinson’s Disorder. He created some phenomenal pieces, but this one dominated them all. A church pastor exchanged his forty acres in high desert country for this molten lump of misery.
At the time, before we both found Jesus, we lived by our choice placed above God’s wishes. We were broken sinners, enmeshed in adultery. Was God reaching out to Mike? Is that where “Fallen Angel” was conceived?
Oh yes, it was an incredibly attractive piece, viewed from all angles. But what a pathetic, pitiable sight was Satan himself, viewed by all angels; not at all attractive, except to those choosing to follow Satan down to Earth to tempt us unsuspecting demigods in our own eyes.
Satan/Lucifer/Mephistopheles/the devil – whatever name he attempts to awe us with is no longer the beautiful covering angel he was created to be. He is not alone. We chose to break God’s Heart with or without knowledge – not knowing Him and not wanting to get acquainted.
We uglify ourselves by our choice to masquerade and foolishly, blindly attempting to rise above our Holy God.
Our choices become our legacy. When we choose to become our own gods, what passion drives us? What is our inheritance? Money? Power? Absolute power, absolutely. All money can do is further your own agenda.
.
What do we use to enslave us? Why? When? And do we free ourselves from our enslavement by our own determinism? I think not – especially if the will of our chosen master is stronger than our desire for freedom
What devilish desire led Satan to best His Creator, our Supreme Father Who allowed his challenge?
What desires will we choose above God, thereby lifting our troubled and troubling hearts beyond His sorrowing reach?
Don’t think. Act. If you don’t know how, read the Book. His Word is not bound by lock and key. Our hearts are. Humility is the key that unlocks His Heart – a wee gift from us, humility, receives from Him the wondrous gift of repentance. He draws near to hear our hearts. God Himself draws us to Jesus.
Come . . .

Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

Well done.
You leave me or of breath dear lady. In a good way! My brain needs the workout.
What desires will we choose above God?
I don't know how I missed reading this. I go through all of the entries, I must have been interrupted and forgot my place!
In any case, excellent work.
Great writing.
