And chasing butterflies,
Where fairy tales are coming true
And dreams are realized—
We have our moments tasting bliss,
But drink our share of pain,
And with a taste that’s more acute
We tread through the mundane…
’Tis not a journey finding praise
On every road we take,
Where souls find courage at our feet
And hearts made more awake—
We often have unveiled our heart
Only to be defiled;
We reach with hope to those around
But so often are reviled…
’Tis not a tour of palaces
Or finding treasure troves,
Or even discovering hidden lands
Where no one else can go—
Nay! If it was for a reward,
I’d give up poetry,
For far too long I sought a prize
That wasn’t meant to be;
The recompense we hope to find
Is the best that may be had:
That we may climb up rainbows
And get a glimpse of God.
