Such as a person, place or thing;
And you will never be forewarned
Of whether it will soothe or sting.
It may be spawned by a stranger
Just casually walking by
Using an ebony walking cane
And sporting a bright Bow Tie.
He reminded me of my father
So I turned for another look
Embarrassing the hapless stranger
And making me feel like a jerk.
Then at the New Year's Party
I sipped a glass of wine
When suddenly a lump formed in my throat
And I couldn't sing "Auld Lang Syne".
An old acquaintance came to mind
Of another New Years Eve
And suddenly the music stopped
While I pinned my heart to my sleave.
A Memory never leaves you
Whether good or whether bad;
And if you live alone like me
At times it's all I've had.
"Oh, Memory, you have no eyes or ears
No voice, no touch nor smile.
But you tug the strings of this old heart
So Please Come In and stay a while!"
