I didn’t notice, or didn’t care.
Is ignorance a good excuse?
Life’s a party, just hang loose.
Who needs rules--they’re no fun,
Let me worry ‘bout number one.
I dug my hole and in I fell--
My life became a living hell.
Thorny paths and gloomy skies,
These followed me but not the wise.
Those tiny tears left untended
Now gaping holes that need mended.
What happened to the Golden Rule,
And scriptures learned in Sunday School?
I really didn’t mean to stray
So far from God, how should I pray?
I lived in haste and came undone,
I’m yielding now to God’s own Son.
I truly can’t remember when
I was good, not craving sin.
But I can change if help I seek,
Tomorrows then won’t be so bleak.
I look up--skies begin to clear,
Thank you Lord, you did hear.
God steered me from my thorny path,
Wrapped me in love instead of wrath.
He mended me with threads elite,
Each stitch made me more complete.
He saved me from the roads I traveled,
He bound me up when I unraveled.
Remembering Paul’s heartfelt cry,
“I do the don’ts and don’t know why.”
We all stumble, we all fall,
God’s always there when we call.
Thank you, God--I bow and pray--
You fill my life with joy today.
