Polished oak pews with cushiony soft seats
Waiting for the organ to tell them when to begin their prayers
Yawning over coffee at the end of a soup kitchen line
Can’t open both eyes yet, but one eye’s on the speaker:
Young and nervous, but he’s talking about Love
Hiding in the basement because of the law
Is this newborn faith worth our lives?
How much longer can we hold out?
We are one in the Spirit. We are one in the Lord
But sometimes when I go to church, I find myself so bored
Can I find my way back to God; my love for Him restored?
Choir so full of joy that it resounds from their voices
Preacher spurring the people to “amens” and “hallelujahs”
Their praises shake the walls of the storefront
Straining to hear the message and songs over babies crying
Her turn in the nursery; lovingly cradling someone’s child
No hymnals here; just Veggie Tales books
New believer; full of love, trying to find a place
Where the power of Love he just accepted
Isn’t buried beneath piles of membership forms
Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee
But hurry, or I’ll miss TV – 16 specials I must see
Six big trucks pulled into the rest stop
Sitting at a picnic table; listening to the Scriptures
Praying together at this opportune moment
The nurse waits for the Spirit to guide her
To the patient who needs to get in touch with God
Medicine can’t reach this one, but He can
For just a moment there are no gunshots heard
The soldiers slip quietly into the foxhole
Joining hands, they pray for those who are and may soon be dead
Onward, Christian soldiers; marching as to war
I sure hope I beat the rushes at the store
I need lots of groceries; must pick up some clothes
Hope the preacher hurries so the latest sales don’t close
Only two convicts this week; words echo through the room
Stacks of Bibles donated for the Prison Ministry
The workers believe more will come someday
Far from home; nothing familiar here
Strange language and customs; lonely and alienated
God has called them; they will stay
The sky is his chapel; hewn stones serve as pews
Fresh grass and flowers decorate altar
He is at one with Peace
Which of these is the church?
What if they all are?
