On one particular Christmas we were asked to perform an outdoor sing out at the Garden and Home Center in our town. The radio station was to broadcast the seasonal music across the airwaves. This local UP With People group sang half traditional Christmas music, and the other half included some patriotic songs.
The night started out on a good note, literally. Everyone began right on pitch. I chose certain individuals to carry mikes and catered my selection to the various tunes we sang. Fairly soon, in the middle of a song, one of the girls was singing way off key. I approached her. What to say? “Would you please listen carefully to the songs as they are being sung; and if you hear anyone singing a little off, would you report it to me?" Phew, that worked!
Then we had a better start, and the rest of the program went smoothly from there on out. The next song on our program was Oh, Holy Night. I was ready for it. It had a strong male part that came near the end. This was where the mikes went into the hands of our few guys.
Not more than twenty feet away sat a beautiful old stone church. A wedding was going on that night – we did not know it. The minister, at that very moment, asked the bride and her groom to kneel for a short benediction. As they bowed for his prayer, I was outside cuing the men to belt out their part: “Fall on your knees and hear the angel voices.” The story I received later was that there wasn’t a dry eye in the place. Some folks called this a marriage made in heaven. I don’t know about that, but it did seem like one that was certainly blessed, and I am sure our song selection was music to this couple’s ears.

I especially liked your title and also the clever line, "The night started out on a good note, literally"! However, in the second paragraph, where you have "outdoor sing out at the Garden and Home Center," I would "scratch" the repetetive-sounding "out." I think it would read more smoothly as "outdoor sing at the Garden and Home Center."
I loved what happened while you sang "Oh, Holy Night"! That had to be divinely orchestrated timing! How perfect! Thank you for sharing this sweet story!
