I don’t remember the first time our paths crossed or when our greetings grew friendlier in nature. I look back in my memories and it just isn’t clear and perhaps it doesn’t matter at all.
Judy wasn’t one to speak up or out about things. You knew where she stood in life by the walk she shared with Christ. She taught me so much without ever having said a word.
Some of my sweetest memories were the hugs we shared as she filled me in on her latest test results or what the doctors had told her about her chemo or cancer markers. I remember vividly her telling me that the cancer was back and she was ready to fight again.
Judy was a brave woman. She always had a smile for everyone she met. When she talked about her baby sitting job, her eyes just danced with joy. She loved those kids, just as if they were her own.
Judy cared so much about other people. She gave so much of herself. I don’t think I can remember a time when I didn’t see her at one of the events at the church. The Derby Fair, the rummage sales, the roast beef dinners. Never out front, always behind the scenes working. Faithfully serving our Father.
Judy worked on the flower committee; she may even have been its chairperson. She took the orders for poinsettia’s and Easter lilies, faithfully every year. She made sure people were able to come to church when they didn’t have a way to get there.
Some of the sweetest times I have shared with another human being is praying with them in the presence of our Lord. Judy and I prayed often. I will always cherish my memories of a friendship that ended way too soon.
Judy was a humble, quiet servant here on earth. She walked here on earth with dignity, grace, courage, and a love for God that was a blessing to witness. I know she is in the company of Jesus today, smiling down on all of us with her infectious smile. Judy, sister, I miss you, I love you. Give Jesus a hug for me.
Your sister in Christ –
